Sharing Patient Information with Police

canadi EM - By Mijia Murong - April 11, 2023
Conclusion
As emergency physicians and learners, we also have an obligation to advocate for the health of our communities at large. Understanding the traumas many patients, especially those who are Black, Indigenous, and/or are experiencing mental illness undergo due to policing is an important exercise in keeping our communities safe and healthy. Familiarize yourself with the local and national discourse around policing by centering marginalized perspectives. Consider getting involved in initiatives that advocate for evidence-based alternatives to policing during mental health and wellness checks.
